Our Story
The Lookie Kookie Story
Lookie Kookie began with something simple: a love of baking and the joy that comes from sharing something sweet.
Founder Lisa Kemp, a former chef born and raised in Washington, DC, spent years working in kitchens where precision, creativity, and passion were the foundation of every dish. But outside of professional cooking, one thing always brought her the most happiness—baking cookies for family and friends. For Lisa, baking wasn’t just about dessert; it was about comfort, nostalgia, and bringing people together.
After settling in Silver Spring, Maryland, Lisa continued baking at home, often experimenting with recipes and flavors that blended classic comfort with creative twists. Her kitchen became a place where the smell of warm cookies filled the air and new ideas were always being tested.
Her son, Myles Murray, grew up around that energy. Watching his mother bake, tweak recipes, and share cookies with everyone around her sparked something in him too. What began as helping in the kitchen—mixing dough, taste-testing batches, and learning the craft—slowly turned into a shared passion.
By the end of 2024, that passion became something bigger.
Together, Lisa and Myles decided to turn their love of baking into a brand that reflected both their personalities and their story. They launched Lookie Kookie, a cookie company built on homemade quality, creativity, and a little bit of playful curiosity—because every cookie invites people to take a “lookie” before they take a bite.
What started in their home kitchen quickly grew into something more: unique flavors, colorful branding, and a mission to make people smile with every box.
Today, Lookie Kookie represents more than just cookies.
It represents a mother passing down her craft, a son bringing new ideas to the table, and a family building something sweet together.
And this is only the beginning.
Community
One of the most exciting steps in that journey has been bringing Lookie Kookie to the Olney Farmers Market. Being part of the market has allowed us to connect directly with the community—meeting customers face to face, sharing samples, and hearing people’s reactions the moment they try a cookie. Those interactions have helped shape the brand, inspire new flavors, and build a loyal following week after week.
Selling at the market has also allowed Lookie Kookie to showcase the creativity behind the menu. From classic favorites to unique specialty flavors, each batch reflects the care and experimentation that started in Lisa’s kitchen. Seeing people come back to the stand asking for their favorite cookie—or excited to try a new one—reminds us why we started this journey in the first place.
As Lookie Kookie continues to grow, the farmers market remains a special part of our story. It represents community, connection, and the excitement of building something from the ground up. What began as a mother passing down her love of baking to her son has turned into a brand that’s beginning to reach more and more people with every cookie we bake.
A Word From Our Founder Lisa
“Baking has always been my way of showing love. When I see someone smile after the first bite of a cookie, that’s everything to me. Starting Lookie Kookie with my son Myles made it even more special—because now it’s not just about cookies, it’s about sharing our passion, our story, and a little bit of joy with everyone who takes a bite.”
